当第五季回归时，故事将紧跟Rita被谋杀的情节，「Dexter将对Rita的死做出反应」，「我们将看到他的痛苦」，「悲痛是他从未经历过的事情，我们会发现那很有趣」。此外，剧组表示Rita（Julie Benz）不会再回到剧中，但是她的两个孩子会留下来，「Dexter和那两个孩子的问题，是我们本季要探索的一个大问题。」本剧不算是真正的医务剧，而更侧重刑侦类，如果喜欢医务剧可以去看看《医缘第一季/宅女医生第一季》。
